Clinics & Services

Child Health

Mum and baby 8 week checks are held by appointment only on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at the Brambles surgery.

New babies have their eight week check and immunisations.

Family Planning

A range of family planning services can be discussed by appointment only with the GP and/or nurse practitioner.

Cervical Smears

In this practice we try to follow the Health Authority guidelines of a cervical smear test at least every five years (three-yearly for younger women).

For some women these are recommended more frequently. You will be recalled by letter, and we would advise you to make an appointment as soon as you receive this. If it is more than five years since you had a cervical smear please book an appointment through the treatment room reception.

Breast Screening

Routine breast screening is available from the mobile unit or at the local breast screening unit. All women between 50 and 70 will be invited by letter every three years to attend for mammography. Women over 70 can telephone 01206 748339 for an appointment.

Health Screening

NHS Health checks are provided at the surgery especially for those who have no apparent health problems. You will be asked about your medical history, family history, immunisations, diet, smoking and drinking habits. The nurse will weigh you, measure your height, check your blood pressure and test your urine. If appropriate she will offer advice, and if necessary will refer you to your doctor. You can make an appointment for a well person check by telephoning the surgery and explaining what you require. We also provide this service for all new patients over five years of age who are registering with the surgery. We encourage all patients to share responsibility for their health. Many diseases can be prevented by a healthy lifestyle, e.g. sensible eating and drinking, regular exercise and no smoking. We are happy to advise you.

Other Services

The practice provides the following services:

Asthma

Asthmatic patients should have regular checks. We offer advice and monitoring as well as access to specialist services. Asthma clinics are held most afternoons by appointment with the practice nurse.

Coronary Heart Disease

Patients at risk of coronary heart disease should have regular checks, and our nurses offer monitoring and advice. You will be called automatically for an annual review at the surgery; however, you should call the doctor or nurse immediately if you have any concerns.

CVD Risk Assessment

If you have hypertension and are aged between 40 and 74 years you may book an appointment with our practice nurse for a Cardiovascular Risk Assessment. This simple assessment will ascertain your risk of developing Coronary Heart Disease over a 10 year period.

Diabetes

Clinics are held throughout the week. Our trained nursing staff will see you for this but you will also have to see a doctor when necessary.  It is advisable that you have an annual check up and should also see your optician on a yearly basis.  Many diabetic eye complications can be prevented by an early check up.

Minor Operations

Minor surgical procedures can be arranged at the surgery after an initial consultation with your doctor. We offer injection of joints via our in house physio.

We are no longer offering ear irrigation, as it is not available on the NHS and no longer feasible; if you require this treatment you will need to arrange it privately.
