Prescriptions

Please note that you cannot order your repeat prescription until 10 days before it is due; any items requested early will not be issued, and your request discarded. For further information please read our prescribing policy.

Ordering

To order a repeat prescription there are a few options:

Bring to reception: If you have lost your repeat request counterfoil please write your name, date of birth and contact number and the name of your medication on a piece of paper and hand it to the reception team, or put through the practice letter box if we are closed.

By post: If you enclose a stamped addressed envelope we will post them back to you.

Online: Following registration you can order via the link at the top of this page. To register please contact reception. You will be given a temporary password which you  be prompted to change upon logging in for the first time.

We do not take repeat prescription requests by telephone to avoid errors*

*with the exception of housebound patients

• carried in original packaging
• carried in hand luggage (airline regulations permitting)
• carried with a valid personal import/export licence (if necessary; see below)

Collections

You must always allow at least three working days for your prescription to be processed, and longer at busy times such as Christmas, Easter and Bank Holidays. Doctors sign prescriptions in batches in addition to all their other responsibilities, often at the end of their clinics (and not precisely 72 hours after the request was left, as this is often interpreted).

As a guide, if you leave your request on Saturday morning it may not be ready for collection until 17:00 Wednesday.

ETP (Electronic Prescriptions Service)

We can now send prescriptions electronically to your pharmacy of choice. Please speak to a receptionist to set this up. Some medication, such as strong painkillers cannot be sent via ETP. If you have a paper prescription is sent to a chemist/pharmacy you may reasonably need to extend the two day processing expectation. Please contact your chemist/pharmacy for advice on their collection schedules from the surgery.

We are upgrading to the next phase of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) which will mean that almost all our prescriptions will be processed electronically from 20th January.

Electronic prescriptions help save the NHS money.

You will receive your prescriptions in the same way as you do now.

Pharmacy Arrangements

It may be convenient for you to instruct your chemist to collect your prescription for you, and you should arrange this directly with them. Some pharmacies will deliver to housebound patients.

Patients on repeat medications will periodically be asked to see as doctor for a medication review (see ‘medication reviews’ below).

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review their regular medications. A notification should appear in bold on your repeat slip to advise you in good time.

Please ensure that you book these appointments promptly when asked appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions, and respect that our prescription staff are adhering to prescribing protocol.
